Phlexx Records (PLX083) 2023
Slow Down is about yearning for closure when someone you love abruptly leaves. The key and tempo change in the song represent the initial feeling of hurt that transforms into a powerful feeling of longing, wanting to live in a dreamy-state where everything is okay.
Penny Moon are an upcoming (mainly) all female band from Nottingham with just the right amount of pop sensibilities to elevate their heavier indie-rock tendencies into a new realm. Dreamy melodic harmonies and a sensitive ear for instantly catchy hooks contrast beautifully with that late 80s quiet-loud-quiet indie aesthetic that birthed grunge and the later alt-rock scenes here and in the US. These women know how to kick it hard when it matters and this blend of power and delicate empathy has got something special about it. About to release their second single on Phlexx Records, Penny Moon should be on your list of new bands to see before they go huge!
For fans of Wolf Alice, Mitski, The Breeders, Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Throwing Muses, Shoegaze.
